Report from Membership Committee (2012 – 2014)

We are happy to report that membership in the biennium of 2012 – 2014 increased by three new members to fifty-four. Regrettably, Kathy Tam, our member since 2002, withdrew her membership and relocated to Canada to join her children. We wish her a very happy reunion and encourage her to join a Zonta Club in Canada.
Our three new members come from diverse career background and take active roles to support our 17th District 17 Conference in Hong Kong last September, fund raising film premiere in April 2014 and regular business meetings.
Madeleine Ling, third generation advertising professional is the founder of Internad Ltd. The company provides services such as information processing, business solutions and technical services.
Louisa Wong is a Student of Doctorate in Medicine, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and a Master of Chinese Medicine (HKU) and a registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner in Hong Kong.
Emmy sham is a joint founder and Director of PayEase Corporation, a payment service platform that covers mobile, online, call centers services. PayEase is connected to over 98% of banks in China.
In our contributions to the community, we are so happy that our Zonta members received much recognition:
Yvonne Chua, Senior Partner and Head of Intellectual Property Practice Group, Wilkinson & Grist, Solicitors & Notaries, Hong Kong was elected President (2013-4), the first Chinese and second female President in the 41 years’ history of Licensing Executives Society (LES) International. It is a global business association made up of 32 national/regional societies, representing more than 10,000 individual members in over 90 countries, all involved in licensing, transfer and management of intellectual property rights.
Our devoted member Winnie Wong is elected as Area Director of District 17 2014-2016. We are confident that Zonta will flourish under Winnie’s leadership.
Wendy Siu was bestowed with the distinction of ‘Officier dans l’Ordre National du Merite’. This lifetime medal is an honorable promotion within one of the highest civilian honours given by the French Republic.
Florence Yip was appointed non-official member of the Financial Services Development Council, to the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR. The Council was established to facilitate and enhance the long-term development of Hong Kong’s financial services industry.
In the fields of education and the environment, Mabel Mak was appointed visiting professor of Beijing Normal University and Advisor to 北京市園林局.
On a more somber note, our former member Dora Hung, founder of Wing Han Educational Foundation passed away in the United States in February 2013. Dora’s support of Zonta and the meaningful work in helping the deprived youngsters will always be remembered.
