In order to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, no visitors were allowed to enter the elderly homes in Hong Kong since February 2020. The family members could no longer visit the residents to provide caring needs and some even had no family members to support them. Despite the no. of confirmed COVID-19 cases were rising there was a severely shortage of face mask supply in the community during that time. Since the mortality was much higher in the elderly group the members of the Zonta Club of the New Territories has identified an eminent need to help the elderly to prevent the spread of the disease in the elderly homes. A total of 6000 surgical masks was donated to three elderly homes of 355 beneficiaries who are majority female residents in July 2020.
