COVID-19 pandemic has led to a serious of health and socio-economic impact to people, especially in low income and grassroots families. Many of the bread-winners, particularly working in the retail, catering and services industry had affected seriously and lost their jobs.
The COVID-19 Emergency Fund Project was conducted in May 2020 during the time when Hong Kong had significant no. of COVID-19 cases yet in the community was shortage of face mask supply. The Zonta Club of the New Territories has reacted quickly with the district integrated center to provide support. Social worker helped to identify suitable low income families in the district who were in need of financial and social assistance. The project supports a total no. of 600 beneficiaries’ families of more than 2000 people. Cash together with surgical masks were donated to the 600 families for emergency use of buying food and daily necessities for support during the hard times.
