The 16th Zonta International District 17 Conference was held at Manila, Philippines from 26 to 28 August 2011. President Margaret Chan, Vice President Angela Ho, together with Teresa Lin and Winnie Wong represented our Club to attend the Conference. The Opening Ceremony and Gala Dinner were truly impressive, with attendees dressed in bright colourful national costumes and performances of high standards. The first order of business was the traditional parade of flags and Margaret proudly carried the flag of Zonta Club of the New Territories.
During the Business Sessions, reports for the 2010-2012 biennium were delivered and the theme “Women Empowering Women: Refocusing on Zonta’s Core Mission” was discussed. Hong Kong Zontian Winnie Teoh was elected Governor District 17, Linda Wang was elected Area 2 Director and Winnie Wong of our Club was elected Vice Area 2 Director for the biennium 2012-2014. District Governor-Elect Winnie Teoh and Zontians from Hong Kong officially presented Hong Kong’s bid for the 17th District Conference and invited everyone to attend by singing the song “Kowloon Hong Kong”.
At the Closing Ceremony, under the theme of “Broadway Night”, the Area 2 Zontians sang a medley from Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals and received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
