Report from Environmental Committee (2010 – 2012)

In 2010, Zonta Club of the New Territories co-sponsored the Ecolity Global Youth Summit on Sustainability with Bank of China (Hong Kong) as the Title Sponsor. This program was jointly organized by AISEC with students from HK Polytechnic University, HK Baptist University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
About 130 university students from seven countries together with those from local schools and universities attended the summit. Dr. Kitty Poon, the Under Secretary for the Environment, officiated the opening ceremony, and then followed by two prominent keynote speakers, Dr.William Yu and Mr Brown of Kadoorie Farm Botanic Garden, who shared their insights on sustainability with the participants. Mr Brown also joined the panel discussion with Mr Toby Kent of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and shared with the students their views on Hong Kong’s current state of sustainability.
With the aim to further increase the participants’ awareness and knowledge on Sustainability, the Summit included 4 workshop modules: Living On Health And Sustainability (LOHAS), Innovation, World Environment Day, and Good Case Practices led by speakers of the leading field. In addition, the students were divided into teams to develop their business plans on sustainability with the objectives to translate their knowledge in sustainability into actionable plans .
