Report from Environmental Committee (2006 – 2008)
Co-Chairmen: Angela Ho, Mabel Mak
To combat climate change, we joined force with Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden and the Tai Po Environmental Association to support the ” One Tonne Challenge” program and pledged to cut down carbon dioxide emission by 60 tons per annum. This project was launched in July at the Star Ferry pier with the Director of Environmental Protection as the officiating guest. In addition, we had invited speakers from Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden and Tai Po Environmental Associations to share with us on various ideas on how to achieve this carbon dioxide reduction target. In summary, this reduction target can be achieved through changing our living habits to reduce consumption of electricity, reduce waste and by using green products. As part of this initiative, we had reinforced the habit of “Bring your own bag” (BYOB) for shopping by distributing “Zonta-nt” environmental friendly bags to our members and their guests at our 25th Anniversary Celebration Dinner.
