On 21 December 2016, our Club teamed up with other Zonta Clubs in HK and Golden Z Clubs to distribute thousands of wristbands printed with the slogan “Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women.”
To enhance members’ awareness of the situation of sexual violence involving children and the mentally challenged in Hong Kong, our Club invited a law profession who is also a member of the Law Reform Commission and a Senior Superintendent of Police to share with us the proposed legislative amendments to safeguard against sexual abuses for children and persons with mental impairment. 26 Zontians and 3 Golden Z members attended the talk held on 7 March 2017.
To kick off the16 days of Activitism Campaign, members waved orange Zonta Says No advocacy cards during the performance at our Club’s 35th Anniversary Celebration cum Charity Dinner held on 25 November 2017 attended by over 40 members, 400 guests and 20 prospective Zontians. Guests were encouraged to join us by waving the advocacy cards too.
Since developing an educational kit of interactive games and videos in co-operation with CEASE Crisis Centre of Tung Was Group of Hospitals to educate mentally challenged women for self-protection against violence, our Club has so far sponsored 20 workshops for 705 staff, 14 mentally challenged groups of 109 members, 14 workshops/talks for 861 women with mental impairment and 1 talk for 5 parents.
