Report from Membership and Classification Committee (2008 - 2010)
Co-Chairmen: Yvonne Chua, Paddy Lui
We are pleased to report that our membership for the term of 2008-2010 has increased from 50 to 51.
One new member, Cindy Young, from a new business sector namely travel and tourism has joined our Club. Cindy has since actively taken part in our biannual Fund Raising event and made significant contributions.
Waves of excitement and congratulatory e-mails filled the day of 2 July 2009 for sisters of The Zonta Club of New Territories in Hong Kong (Area 2) with news of our five members being awarded honours by the Hong Kong SAR Government in this yearˇ¦s Honours List and appointment of Justices of Peace.
Zontian Christine Fang and Paddy Lui were conferred the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS), joining Betty Fu who received the same award last year, while Janice Choi received the Medal of Honour (MH) award.
The honours are conferred each year in recognition of the recipientsˇ¦ significant contribution to Hong Kong or their dedicated public and community service. Betty was commended for her distinguished and meritorious 38 years of service in the Executive Grade of the civil service whilst Christine has made outstanding contribution to building a quality and responsive welfare sector to serve the community of Hong Kong as the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service which provides 90% of the social welfare services in the territory. Paddy was recognized for her dedicated efforts in advancing the development of tourism, arts and culture in Hong Kong. Janice on the other hand, has been truly committed to public and community services, particularly the work of the Community Chest for almost 20 years.
Christine and Paddy were earlier appointed Justices of Peace. Joining their appointment this year is Elizabeth Law who has been heavily involved in helping the underprivileged, in promoting voluntary social service amongst the accounting professionals and in enhancing the care for environmental protection.
Zonta NT is most excited, honoured and encouraged by the achievements of our distinguished sisters. With joy and in unity we join hands together in continuing to pursue Zontaˇ¦s goals of service for our community.

Whilst we regret to receive the resignation of Fanny Ko, we understand this was due to personal reason and we are happy that she will continue her support to us by being "Friend of Zonta NT".
At the same time, in our endeavour to foster the bondage of our existing members to our Club, we have held special luncheons on small group basis with those few Zontians who, owing to their heavy travel commitments or work load have not been able to attend regularly our meetings. We thank them for their continued caring concern for the Club and are delighted to have received their assurance that they hope to resume their active participation soon.
We have also maintained contacts with "Friends of Zonta NT" and were extremely delighted to have Dora Hung joining one of our social service meetings.
Finally, on reclassification, following the changes adopted by Zonta International on classification of occupations and the setting of new code list, we have revised the classification codes of all our members accordingly.
We are all proud to be members of Zonta NT and will continue to work towards
the growth of our Club.
