Message from the President Mrs. Margaret Chan
The Zonta Club of the New Territories has been actively involved in various
social service projects which have benefited the under-privileged, ranging from the safety of the elderly to the welfare of the young people. Over the past two years, under the leadership of Tina Kwan, our immediate past president, our Club has made significant contribution to the society at large. The Zonta Club of the New Territories has flourished and continued to uphold the Zonta spirit.
While most women in Hong Kong are well educated, capable and enjoy full autonomy, there are still numerous under-privileged women out there who are suffering from poverty, lack of independence and inadequate self-confidence. There exists an imbalance in society that cannot be ignored. To address the root of the problem, I believe that education would be one of the ways to empower women to strive for a better future. With that in mind, I would like to continue working with fellow Zontians to serve society through helping and encouraging those in need with more emphasis on education. While helping others remains the core objective of our Club, we should not forget to build a solid foundation and improve coordination among Sister Clubs and Zonta International. We should also build on the ground work Tina and past Presidents have laid down for us and should continue to nourish our Golden Z and Z Clubs, especially the Golden Z Club that has recently been re-established at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the newly formed Z Club of Sacred Heart Canossian College.
Having been a Zontian for eight years, I have embraced the Club activities as an important part of my life. The Zontians’ strong fellowship and friendship not only have helped me grow over the years, but also have helped me through the toughest time of my life. I am privileged to be among these woman professionals from different backgrounds, possessing different talents and individualities, yet joining hands to serve our community. I am indeed honoured to be entrusted as the President of the Club. I shall treasure the opportunity to serve and work closely with the fellow members of the Club. With the continued support and guidance of every Zontian, I look forward to a meaningful, fulfilling and rewarding biennium ahead.
