Report from Golden Z Committee (2016-2018)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the biennium 2016-2018, The Chinese University Golden Z Club continued to serve the deprived and needy through their service and advocacy projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Care for young<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The on-going children mentorship program served children from grass-root families in Ma On Shan region. Activities include visits to the Hong Kong Wetland Park, Cheung Chau and the Chinese University to enlarge exposure of children from natural beauty of Hong Kong to environment of the university campus. Educational and empowerment games, handcraft workshops were arranged every month for 6 months. Served as mentors, Golden Z members guided the children to accomplish various goals aimed to develop their self-confidence and esteem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Care for elderly<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooperated with Ma On Shan East C&Y ISC, The Boys\u2019 and Girls\u2019 Club Association of Hong Kong, visits to elderly homes were organized. Lanterns made by children in the centre and moon-cakes were given out as gifts. Golden Z members did exercises with the elderly. Chinese opera was performed by a Golden Z member and residents there were much amazed and delighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Care for women<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities were organized for new immigrant women of the Hong Kong Federation of Women\u2019s Centres. Handcraft workshops were organized, during which participants and students shared and exchanged their everyday life experiences and interests with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International service<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joint with the Lingnan University Golden Z Club and Nantou YMCA in Tainan, the \u201cTai Story\u201d service project was held from 2 – 8 January 2017. Through elderly visits and served as teachers for children in Nantau, Golden Z members witnessed the much serious gender inequalities in rural area of Tainan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advocacy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To promote gender equality and to raise awareness of sexual violence in the community, Chinese University Golden Z Club kicked off their \u201cZonta Says No to Violence\u201d project with a seminar by Ms Pandora Liu of CEASE, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, during their installation ceremony in March 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cZonta Says No to Violence\u201d seminar to university students in Chinese University of Hong Kong<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It was followed with \u201cCookie Sales\u201d at the University campus to raise funds to fight against violence against women. It was wind up by another \u201cCookie Sales\u201d at the fund raising event of our club on 25 November 2017, the start of United Nation\u2019s \u201c16 Days of Activism\u201d. Prior to the event, promotions of the event at the Federation of Women\u2019s center to educate members of the Center and their awareness of the issue, then the recruitment of helpers for cookie-making to recruitment of helpers at the booth on the date; and finished with the actual sales booth at the event. Funds raised were used to sponsor the Center\u2019s works on single mothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
